Rich in History & Amenities

As the largest resort in the park, the State Game Lodge features sleeping rooms with lots of different options. Choose from historic lodge rooms upstairs in the main lodge, hotel rooms attached to the main lodge that have been renovated for 2024, the Jr. Suites of Creekside Lodge next door, and cabins in the valley. On-property cabins including the Reunion Cabin and the neighboring Tatanka Cabin are within 1/2 mile walk.

  • In order to accommodate guests with allergies, our lodge rooms are rented pet-free
  • $10 for rollaway/pack-n-play per night - Available in Select Units. Limited availability.
  • When you book a room, the cost of your room for the first and last night (plus tax) is required as a deposit. We will refund your deposit if you cancel your reservation at least 15 days before the arrival date. A $25.00 cancellation fee will be deducted from your refund.

  • Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, these rooms originally housed the President & his staff during his 1927 summer-long visit to the State Game Lodge.
  • Located upstairs on the 2nd floor of the historic State Game Lodge (multiple steps required).
  • As the rooms were built before individual hotel washrooms, the bedroom closets were all converted to private washrooms many years ago.
  • Front Desk, Gift Shop, White House Dining Room & Historic Lounge conveniently located downstairs.
  • Only seven (7) historic rooms in total.

Lodge Area

The State Game Lodge is a gracious native stone and wood lodge built in 1920 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It served as the “Summer White House” for President Calvin Coolidge in 1927 and was visited by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1953. And the Grace Coolidge Creek still serenely winds through the valley today.

The park’s popular Buffalo Safari Jeep Tours originate from the State Game Lodge (check in at: Creekside Lodge). Take an open-air ride into the wilderness in search of bison while our guides tell you all about the park and its amazing wildlife. Check out a property map of the State Game Lodge.

More Rooms, Just Steps Away

Creekside Lodge was added in the late 2000's and built 200 yards from the State Game Lodge, along Grace Coolidge Creek. Creekside Lodge added 30 Jr. Suites to the resort's inventory that are now kept open year-round. Check in for your Buffalo Safari here, too.

How to Book a Room at State Game Lodge

The largest property with the most diverse accommodations is the State Game Lodge, located along US-16 Scenic. Travelers often enjoy the hotel rooms here because they are an easy walking distance to the comforts and conveniences of the Historic Restaurant, Lounge, and Front Desk.

Sylvan Lake Lodge is the second-largest property in the Park, located at the top of Needles Highway (6,145 elev.) It is the only other lodge in the Park that offers hotel rooms. European-style lodge rooms are original to the building and have been renovated. The west wing of lodge rooms was entirely rebuilt in 2022. Visitors comment about the tremendous & historic location.

Both Legion Lake Lodge and Blue Bell Lodge offer cabins only.

Sylvan Lake Lodge at Custer State Park Resort is the only lodge that offers connecting hotel rooms.

All resorts offer cabins, some with multiple bedrooms and full kitchens.

Keep your eyes peeled...wildlife can be around any corner during your drive, hike, or stay in the Park. For a hotel room stay with the best wildlife viewing opportunities, we suggest exploring the State Game Lodge Hotel Rooms. The effortless access to the shared patio that spans the entire front of the building and the historic Front Porch of the Game Lodge both make the perfect spot for relaxed wildlife watching.
